A2’s new logo and website by Johnnie Wong of Airborne Creative will be launched very shortly in time to celebrate our first 10 years of practice. We would like to thank all our clients, friends and colleagues who have supported A2 in practice to date.

A geometric timber grid shell informs a new entrance lobby for Limerick Courthouse, Merchants Quay on behalf of The Office of Public Works. The lobby structure along with its door sets and window screens are made of beech. Brass plate is employed to complete edgings as well as door furnishings and floor strips.

A2 Architects head to the Venice Biennale, the 14th International Architecture Exhibition. There were mixed views on Koolhaas’ Elements amongst us: Some felt it was a redefining moment for architecture, others amongst us felt it was simply treating architecture as natural history and void of human factors such as politics and economy. The sun, food and drink over the four days certainly helped the exhibition’s digestion!

Granby Park by A2 Architects and Sean Harrington Architects in collaboration with Upstart (www.upstart.ie) has won Best Public Space/Urban Design at the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2014. A2 Architects were also highly commended for two additional projects: Gorey Community School Three Specialist Classroom Extension, Co. Wexford and Pulp Press Pavilion, Kistefos, Norway. The jury citation for Granby Park was as follows: ‘A transformative pop-up park achieved by the fulfilment of an ambitious process of collective creativity.   From artists, architects, schoolchildren, horticulturists, cooks, musicians, and more this community based project brought forward, through a remarkable volunteering spirit, the potential of everyday vacant city spaces alive and inventive, the park embraces resourceful design; polytunnels for shelter and a winding amphitheatre constructed from industrial timber pallets featured.  A significant element of the project is that, although temporary, it was designed as a template for other communities and their spaces’

Timber Extension, Shandon, Phibsborough is clad with its surface-mounted flush glazing. Flush panelled plywood cladding is used above and below the glazing. Internally the doubled and splinted timber portal frames are stained black.

A new three-storey lift core is added to the Main Hall of Limerick’s Social Welfare Office, Dominick Street. Designed in collaboration with OPW Limerick, the new lift core is clad in gloss green mosaic
