NEW ENTRANCE TO DUBLIN CITY UNIVERSITY

RIAI International Architecture Competition 2013

In order to transform the presence of Dublin City University on Collins’ Avenue and within Dublin City, three key architectural moves are made: A 17m tall lightweight filigree portal of burnished steel frame and hardwood open timber slats covers a new public space beneath. A shared ground surface of limestone cobble sets extend in a diagonal geometry is laid. Lastly a continuous cast insitu bench, beech hedge and super-sized powder-coated steel lettering are added in front of the existing campus boundary wall in order to present an inviting edge that can be enjoyed by both students, staff and the general public.
