HENRIETTA STREET, DUBLIN

RIAI International Architecture Competition 2012

This competition proposal for a gable-end infill site on Henrietta Street Dublin can be distilled down to three moves: Firstly an enclosed space in the form of an external room is made of Henrietta Street. Secondly a cantilevered, translucent glass brick screen, much like the device of the entrance screen into Kings Inns, forms a threshold into Henrietta Street. A long gallery is accommodated within the thickness of the screen. Lastly a grand public stairs, of a scale similar to the stairs found in the houses of Henrietta Street, occupies the competition site from which the glass screen cantilevers. The stair landings provide places to utilize, to rest, to pass through, to enjoy.
